Zidane the insane saga continues.

Dailymail has revealed the words uttered to Zidane in an article. A lip reading linguist tells us the words sparked the awesome headbutt on Marco Matterazzi. Matterazzi, the wonderful mouth piece of racist Italy called Zidane the Italian equivalent of 'n*****'., Then Matterazzi and then insulted both his mother and his Muslim background by saying he is the 'son of a terrorist whore. Which as S. Hassan guessed yesterday, is a pretty serious thing to say to a Muslim man.

Finding out that Matterazzi spoke such vile words do not matter. They show nor prove anything. The Italians won the 2006 World Cup. It was bad form and a lack of class. But footballers dont always need class to get the glory. Even with France dominating from the 60th minute, they ended by missing a penalty kick.

It may actually be that I guess we're all going through some soccer withdrawal after having the gooey goodness of a whole month of World Cup Maddness. It was unexpected to be enjoying the game were enganging each other with conversations about the game and what actually happened instead of what happend to the hip hop career of Clint Dempsey.

Zinedine Yazid Zidane, France's legendary midfielder completely lost his head in the world cup final versus Italy in the closing moments of the 110th minute. France certainly missed having Zidane in the penalty shootout that followed. The cameras told a story of muslim aggression, but in the following days, a newer better story will surface with nipple tweaking and your mamma jokes told in a dirty Italian accent. Wait...that stuff goes on in soccer? No way!

Searching youtube, you'll find plenty of different accounts and reactions of the incident. The "exclusive" angle, the super Mario cut--basically these will live on for many internet days to come, thank you Zidane!

What actually occurred will be debated until a definitive answer from Zidane and or Materazzi. In the meantime, video gets uploaded as quickly it gets pulled because of copyright infringement. Certainly there will be many more stories to come about this whole thing, but in the meantime enjoy watching the Materazzi video.

For the U.S. team to advance, it must defeat Ghana in its last game. In addition to beating Ghana, the United States needs one of these scenarios to take place:

1. Italy defeats the Czech Republic.

2. Italy ties the Czech Republic 0-0 or 1-1 AND the United States beats Ghana by at least four goals.

3. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by five or more goals.

4. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by four goals AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Czechs do in their tie.

Where to Watch the Wolrd Cup? Fado...

The SomethingSports bloggers headed to Fado , probably Philadelphia's premier Soccer/Football/World Cup hangout for fans of any team to come view all the matches. Fado is very poorly illuminated which makes it perfect for television viewing, unlike a Champs or a Fox & Hound; Fado is tiny and filled with narrow walkways. The televisions are plentiful and positioned for either watching at the bar or seated. The food is actually quite forgettable and not worth mentioning. The drinks on tap are of good variety, (Yuengling, smithwicks, Guinness, Harp, Victory, etc). The real reason to come is being able to watch your favorite team standing side by side with fellow countrymen and possibly a Somethingsports blogger as well.

Why Im Starting To Like The Phillies

I've been living in the Philly area for 16 years and I've supported all of the major Philly sports teams except for the Phillies. Why exclude the Phillies? Because they've sucked for most of those 16 years. Do you know that the Phillies have more losses in the 20th century than ANYONE!? Yes, I know they had one great year of reaching the world series but after that it was just horrible. Even in the last few seasons the Phillies have had a stronger team than the Braves and have still lost out the division to them. What a bunch of suck asses.

But their is one new phenomenon on the Phillies that has peaked my interest. It goes by the name of Ryan Howard and it likes to hit home runs. The reigning National League Rookie of the Year that sent the beloved Jim "The Fat Homie" Thome packing. As of June 1, 2006 his stats are the following with his rank in National League in parenthesis: 18 Homeruns (3), 47 RBI (3) , .604 SLG (4). Those are great power hitter stats. Did I mention that his 13 homeruns in May lead the league and that he has 11 opposite field homeruns? Amazing. If you are like me and have ignored the Phillies for most of your life, now their is a reason to pay attention.

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands -- United States midfielder DaMarcus Beasley has been charged with drunken driving, prosecutors in the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven said Thursday.

Beasley, a forward with Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, will have his case heard Friday.

If convicted, Beasley will be asked to pay a $680 fine, said prosecution spokeswoman Astrid Buijs. She said there was a possibility Beasley could be banned from driving in the Netherlands.

The charge arose from an incident Jan. 17, local media reported.

PSV spokesman Pedro Salazar said he was unaware of the charge but the club "fully supports" Beasley. Salazar added that Beasley unavailable for comment.

This isn't the first time the 23-year-old Beasley has had a run-in with Dutch authorities.

Last October, he reached an out-of-court settlement with the justice ministry after failing to declare several items at customs after returning from a trip to the United States.

Beasley, whose contract with PSV runs to 2008, has scored 10 goals in 56 games in the Dutch league, and four goals in 12 matches in the Champions League.

In 1998 Roots, a Canadian clothing company, was the official olympic outfitter of Team Canada. The beret was a huge success in Canada

Due to the success of the beret in 1998, Roots was the official outfitter of team USA in 2002 and they came up with this beret which was also a huge succes.

This year Roots was again the official outfitter of team USA and they came up with the above. Is it just me or is that thing ugly? Maybe Roots felt bad in 2002 for making a nice beret for the Americans and deliberately created a crappy version this year. Its also available in white and red.

Freddy Adu Off to Chelsea?

according to this Timesonline article Chelsea are about to announce they have acquired Freddy Adu from MLS for £5 million.

The interesting thing about that article is it refers to Adu as one of the premier players in MLS. This is somewhat true. He is a premier promotion tool for MLS but not a premier on the picth performer. In 2 years with his MLS club, DC United, Adu has failed to establish himself as a consistent starter. The main selling point for Adu is potential which is evident by his flashes of brilliance over the past 2 years.

The real question, who is more adept at helping Adu reach his potential, Chelsea or MLS? That is what is most important to US Soccer. Can Adu flourish at DC United where he has been upset at his limited playing time? If he can't maintain a starting role at DC United how will he fair at Chelsea, one of the top team in the world?

I think Adu will react positively to being a reserve on Chelsea (his favorite team) at the age of 16. Imagine if you had your dream job at 16, wouldn't you be excited too? Plus, sitting on the bench at MLS (still a young league after a decade of existence) is a lot worse than being loaned out by Chelsea.

Keep playing Madden 2005!

It's a little tricky trying to review a game that you have never played but we are going to try anyway (fuck, we're not professionals!). A real reviewer would actually play 2006 when making the bold statement as we are doing here. We are not real reviewers. We just masquerade as bloggers.

Who cares about Madden NFL 2005 when the brand new Madden NFL 06 is available? Well for one thing Electronic Arts now has an exclusive licensing deal with the NFL worth $400 million [WSJ]. Which means the noteworthy 2kSports series which finally began to take a bite out of Madden's sales by pricing itself at 19.99 will no longer be able to use the official names of teams and players thus leading to no new 2k games. Basically the only competition Madden will have is previous incarnations of itself. The price will only get more expensive with the next generation consoles priced at 59.99.

A lot of people are thinking about purchasing it or have done so already. We have no comment for those who have purchased it. But for those who have not, (there are a few of you); Consider the cost of a new EA sports game being well over fifty dollars and the fact that you may already have madden 2005 and grown attached to the game.

The Wall Street Journal covering Madden 06 would be a suprising but that game is EA's cash cow. Why? Because every August millions of mostly Americans buy it. Most buy it every year. Is that going to change? Probably not. The consumers who spend $50+ each year for EA's next "generation" footballer. While we keep lining the pockets of EA stockholders with cash,

What are they buying? Mostly new uniforms and some more players. They've finally tweaked the passing game. EA Sports hasn't made a major change in the passing system since Madden NFL 96 when they took away the boxes at the top of your screen that you showed you each reciever for the way we are used to passing the ball now, with the camera zooming out and showing your recievers down field. This was a great change because before with the boxes it was hard to tell where exactly on the field your reicevers were. (Anyone remember Joe Montana Football, or Talk Football?)

Although I appreciated the change it was hard for me to see my receivers down field on my Sega Genesis. I didn't get used to this form of passing the ball until Madden 98 for the original Playstation. So how long will it take me to get used to this new quarterback vision cone? I don't even want to know. The vision cone sounds horrible from what people tell me about it. I just hope its one of those features that EA Sports adds in a game and decides to get rid of it in future versions because it sucks! Instead of adding the vision cone, why not add some more playable mini games online? Hopefully they did. Cause this reviewer is not buying it.

Rushing attack was my favorite part of the online experience for Madden 05. But then again, if their is no competition (Backyard Football 2006, WTF!?) then EA Sports can actually make the game worse than the predecessor each year and people will shell out $50 each year to buy it.

So far the odd madden years are actually better, and if you only buy or play odd years the things they change back and forth are actually less annoying since there seem to be less differences game play wise. So suck it up, live your life and when you feel like playing some football keep that Madden 2005 handy.
